Anand Doobay

Anand Doobay has an LLB (hons) and LLM (Corporate and Commercial Law). He trained at Hogan Lovells before qualifying in 1999. He then worked at Peters & Peters where he was a partner for many years.  Anand deals with criminal and regulatory matters including fraud, extradition, mutual legal assistance, corruption, sanctions, tax and money laundering. 

 

Anand was appointed by Theresa May (then Home Secretary) to a panel to review the United Kingdom’s extradition arrangements and the European Parliament asked him to prepare an expert report on potential reforms to the European Arrest Warrant system. Anand was also consulted as an expert by Fair Trials when they prepared their report on INTERPOL. He provided expert evidence on fraud proceedings for the Law Society of England and Wales (R (AE) v The Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis [2013] EWHC 3397 (QB)) and has dealt with many Serious Fraud Office prosecutions.

 

Anand has advised a serving Prime Minister, a former Deputy Prime Minister, a Deputy Foreign Minister and three G20 Governments. He has been involved in high profile and politically sensitive investigations and prosecutions in over 50 countries. Anand has successfully defended many extradition requests arguing that they were politically motivated. He has dealt with extradition requests made to countries other than the United Kingdom including cases in Bermuda, Trinidad, Germany and Cyprus.

Anand has advised a number of governments on their extradition legislation and intervened for JUSTICE in a Supreme Court case considering the rights of children in extradition proceedings (HH (Appellant) v Deputy Prosecutor of the Italian Republic, Genoa (Respondent) PH (Appellant) v Deputy Prosecutor of the Italian Republic, Genoa (Respondent) F-K (FC) (Appellant) v Polish Judicial Authority (Respondent) [2012] UKSC 25). He has also successfully applied to INTERPOL for the deletion of Red Notices.
